organic gardens
Flowers, herbs and vegetables live in harmony in our established gardens around the property. Many of the perennials have been carefully acquired from some of the most historic local plant collections. Our resident gardener practices many different organic growing techniques and is constantly experimenting to create a healthy ecosystem throughout.
Garden tours include topics such as soil health, pollinator plants, companion planting, and beneficial insects. Guests are welcome to ask questions or request a specific gardening topic of interest, or allow our resident gardener to follow their own favorite path.
apiary
Life is the flower of which love is the honey. Our passion for nature and its beautiful cycle drives us to support local pollinators, especially the honeybee. Recent environmental conditions have caused a rapid decline in honeybee health. We are on a mission to make a difference through thoughtful beekeeping and education. Most guests are fascinated by our apiary and we believe that an educated general public is the best solution to saving honeybees.
Our apiary is ideally located to take advantage of the surrounding miles of untouched flora. Each season has its flavor and we harvest carefully to provide a sweet and special taste of what nature offers us.
wildlife
Pennsylvania is home to a diverse population of living creatures. Our property will immerse you in nature, be sure to pay attention. You may see a Bald Eagle or Red Tail Hawk scanning from above, or a Deer grazing in the distance. Perhaps wild trout will be sipping dinner from the water’s surface as you enjoy your own meal above. We support all native wildlife and work hard to educate and maintain the health of our natural surroundings.
A short guided walk throughout the property can help guests to observe and appreciate what seems like an endless network of wildlife. An introduction to fly casting and the world of insects hidden beneath the creek’s surface is available upon request.
